There are 3 precincts recognised across the project. The Southern precinct is the subject of Stage 1 works with construction currently underway. Stage 2 and 3 are the Central and Northern precincts are awaiting confirmation of additonal funding.

Project Delivery and Consultation

The Shire of Broome is leading the delivery of this project; building on the successful completition of the Town Beach and Chinatown projects. Detailed design of the project was completed from 2021-2023, with Josh Byrne & Associates leading this work.

A Community and Stakeholder Reference Group was established to act as a conduit to the community and provide input during the detailed design phase. The Walmanyjun/Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment Community Engagement Evaluation Report summarises this proccess and the outcomes.

Funding

A total of $50 million is required to complete this redevelopment. Of this amount, the Shire of Broome has committed $4.5 million in addition to $351,000 for the new Broome Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). The SLSC is a $4,060,000 million project to upgrade this Shire of Broome asset and was succesfully delivered in June 2023

The Shire was also successful in applying for a number of grants.

-$6 million Federal Government Building Better Regions Fund

-$6 million Lotterwest grant funding in June 2023

-$3.85 million Federal Government grant under the Protecting Australian Communities program

-$170k Department of Communities - Changing Places Grant

Stage 1 has been fully funded and has started construction.
