Broome’s most iconic destination is being transformed.

The Walmanyjun Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment is a once-in-a-generation project that’s reimagining one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal precincts. With sweeping upgrades across beach access, public amenities, cultural interpretation, and coastal protection, the revitalisation will deliver world-class facilities for locals and visitors alike.

Stage 1 is now complete. Stage 2 is underway - bringing a new community plaza, improved event spaces, and enhanced accessibility to the famous Cable Beach shoreline.

This is Broome’s future on full display - respecting the past, protecting the coastline, and creating a vibrant place to gather, play, and enjoy all year-round.

Project timeline

Sept 2023 - Stage 1 Commenced

Stage 1 redevelopment commences with southern precinct temporarily closed. Key upgrades include; sand dune restoration and reprofiling, new beach access stairs and ramp infront of Surf Club, Minyirr Park welcome and entry point, youth space with basketball court and skate park, upgraded southern car park and lighting, a foreshore promenade linking southern and northern precincts, and improved stormwater drainage.

May 2025 - Stage 1 Complete

Stage 1 redevelopment complete and southern precinct reopened with minor works continuing in some areas.

Early June 2025 - Stage 1 Opening

Stage 1 precinct official opening and community celebration.

Early June 2025 - Stage 2 Commenced

Stage 2 redevelopment underway with both northern and central precincts temporarily closed. Key upgrades include; splash park, inclusive dry playground, improved views of Cable Beach, coastal protection works and sand dune restoration, new stairs and disability access ramps to the beach, realigned vehicle beach access ramp to North of the Rocks, new amphitheatre, event spaces, pedestrian plaza, drop off zone and shaded seating and picnic areas.

Mid/Late 2026 - Stage 2 Completion Due

Stage 2 redevelopment due for completion and northern and central precincts reopened.
