Underway and expected completion is mid - late 2026

Walmanyjun Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment Stage 2 works commenced on Tuesday 3 June 2025 and are expected to be completed mid to late 2026.

Supported by $26.3 million in Federal funding and $9 million from the WA State Government, Stage 2 focuses on creating new community spaces, improving accessibility, enhancing event capacity, and delivering crucial coastal protection works.

Take a look at what's coming

Aerial Plan

The Stage 2 redevelopment area being redeveloped is highlighted in yellow below and consists of two key areas; the central precinct includes the car park to Cable Beach House (CBH) area, and the northern precinct covering the amphitheatre to vehicle access ramp (to North of Rocks).

The completed Stage 1 area is highlighted in red, and is the southern precinct.

Stage 2 Key Features

Sand Dune & Coastal Protection Works

Backed by a $1.66 million CoastWA H-CAP grant, Stage 2 includes essential coastal protection at the northern end of Cable Beach, including:

  • A low-crested rock revetment wall
  • Protection for drainage outlets
  • Stabilisation of erosion-prone areas
  • Safeguarding of culturally and environmentally sensitive dunes

These upgrades ensure long-term resilience, protection and safety for our iconic shoreline.

Vehicle Access Ramp to North of the Rocks

A redesigned and realigned vehicle access ramp will restore 4WD beach access north of the rocks once construction is complete.

During construction, enhanced temporary vehicle beach access is available at Gantheaume Point.

Public Ablutions & Amenities

One of the biggest transformations happening across the Walmanyjun Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment is the shift toward true, universal all-abilities accessibility, ensuring locals and visitors of all ages and abilities can move through, enjoy, and connect with this iconic coastline.

Stage 2 accessibility features being integrated include a fully accredited Changing Places facility, designed for people with high-support needs.

Splash Park (Water Play Area)

A major family drawcard, the all year round splash park will introduce interactive water elements, shade, playful design features and year-round cooling fun.

Funded by Lotterywest, this precinct will become one of Broome’s most vibrant community gathering places.

All Abilities Dry Playground: Kuranda Tower & Inclusive Orbit 2.0

Stage 2 introduces a vibrant new playground designed for fun, inclusion and year-round coastal play.

At its heart is the Kuranda Tower, a multi-level adventure structure where children can climb, crawl and slide through an elevated world of play.

The playground will also feature Broome’s first all-abilities play experience, the Inclusive Orbit 2.0, a wheelchair-accessible spinner that allows children and adults of all abilities to play side-by-side.

Constructed from durable, coastal-ready materials, this contemporary playground creates a bright, welcoming space for families to gather, explore and make memories together.

Amphitheatre & Event Spaces

The amphitheatre is being reshaped and expanded with a fresh orientation to:

  • Support large-scale cultural and community events
  • Improve day-to-day usability for visitors
  • Create better lines of sight across the beach and precinct
  • More viewing locations of Broome’s world-famous sunsets

This enhanced space strengthens Broome’s event capacity and elevates the everyday foreshore experience.

Pedestrian Ramp to the Beach

A new universal-access ramp will provide smooth, safe, all-abilities access from the foreshore to the beach, improving inclusivity and supporting prams, mobility aids and people of all ages.

With Broome's unique coastal environments, beach levels will vary due to tides and storm activity.

Kiosk & Commercial Spaces

A new kiosk and flexible commercial spaces will overlook the foreshore, creating new trading opportunities for local operators.
